...Randy Hamilton took Low E.T. of the Meet at April 10th’s Spring Swap & Drag.
Little River Dragway was in excellent shape and Randys’ beautiful Turbo Import
Top Bike laid down a 4.67 e.t. on what he later confided was more than just a
"good day" at the track for him.
...Turns out, it was his 40th Anniversary at Little River Dragway that day. His first
pass on a motorcycle ever was 40 years ago in early April 1971. His easy manner
as he manuvered his dragster down the 1/8th mile on a beautiful Sunday
Afternoon showed that that there’d been a lot of passes since then. His smiling
crew in the pits show’d that there’s been some good times doin’ it too.
...Jocko Mitchel and his Crew Chief Phillip Crouch made a couple of good shots at
the money themselves. Smooth ridin’ Jocko laid down a 5.10 with what looked
and sounded like a soft tune. Phillip said that they’d just finished buttoning it up at
11pm the night before and it was a fresh motor. The bike responded to Phillip’s
clutch artistry and at about 200 foot out, the motor grunted as the clutch came in
and he got a good top end charge. His 2nd pass was a near copy but slightly
quicker 5.08. Not enough to handle Hamilton’s red dragster though.
...Craig Caulk show’d up at Little River ready to ride his fuel bike for the first time.
The long time racer of both 4 wheeled and 2 wheeled drag vehicles wisely bought
a known Top Gas dragster a while back to practice on and now was ready to step
up. The bike sounded strong in the pits and when lit at the water box everything
was coming together with everybody expecting a decent pass. Stanley, Little River
Dragway’s Starter for the past 35 years watching the pipe side of the bike saw a
pushrod spit out on the ground and quickly gave Craig the signal to kill the motor.
As the motor started hammering as a nitromethane powered motor will do just
before it EXPLODES, the team safely turned it off and went back to the pits to
"reload"..
...The Top Bikes that came out for a few early season "laps" thrilled the crowd and
fired up a lot of "pit talk" about the upcoming Cen-Tex "All Motorcycle"
Championships where the Nitro Harleys and Import Dragsters will run HEADS UP
Sunday May 22nd in a 16 Bike Run-What-You-Brung field for $1500.
...The Cen-Tex "All Motorcycle" Championships will also feature Street Bike E.T.
Bracket Racing & Pro E.T. Bracket Racing, 2 Classes of Index Racing and all of
Texas Scooter Times’ American Motorcycle Sportsman Heads-Up Trophy Racing
on Sunday the 22nd.
...Gates open 5pm Saturday Nite May 21st with tech & the track being open from
6pm until 11pm for Top Bike Time Trials that WILL count as Qualifying Passes and
for Open Drags for any bike entered. Sunday’s Top 16 Eleminations First Round is
scheduled for 3pm after 2 earlier Qualifyin’ Passes !!!
...Can Central Texas local Randy Hamilton handle all the competition??? Jocko &
Phillip went back to Dallas with good tuning notes & Craig Caulk made a pass
later in the day April 10th, - It’s Gonna Be A Good Race DON’T MISS IT.....
...Also at the Texas Scooter Times Swap & Drag at Little River
Dragway April 10th was a pretty pink 4 wheeled Junior Dragster.
Elizabeth Peltier, the 10 year old daughter of Camden & Texas
Scooter Times Pro Stager Rick Forse was the envy of every kid at
the old dragstrip as she put several straight passes down the 1/8th
mile. Daddy kept turning it up as the day went on and the young
Baytown racer improved her times over 6/10th’s of a second from
first pass to last. Her 50 mile per hour top end speeds ought to
have given her AND her closely watching parents Quite a thrill!!!
