SHORTY REED WINS CONSOLATION FUEL...Aside from the Top Fuel Harley Ladder at Temple there was also competition in Consolation Top Fuel where the 2 First Round "runner’s up" (or would that be runners ups???) met during the 2nd round of the "nitro party" to line up for their own battle. Bill Flanerty met Shorty Reed and this time the old rodeo bull rider turned Harley drag racer got down the track for the big trophy.
...Also,
PAUL JONES on his BEAUTIFUL ‘57 Sportster based Nostalgia Fuel Harley soloed for the win in his class to the cheers of his fans & family.

PEEK FAMILY WINS TOP ALCOHOL

...Top Alcohol Harley at the 29th running of the Big Drags at Little River started Sunday afternoon with many time National Champion John "The Jet" Peek taking a bye run in the 1st Round of the odd numbered entry field on his Full Throttle Custom Cycle entry because of his Low Qualifier status. His 5.77 e.t. set up the Houston based dragster for lane choice in the 2nd Round.
...In a duplicate of last year’s Final Round matchup , Amazon Racing’s Carrie Tate who rode her street bike 500 miles from Mount Vernon Arkansas to Temple lined up with the Dragon’s Breath Top Alcohol dragster with Shorty Reed aboard for the 2nd pairing. In the closest race of the Eleminations Carrie ran a 6.25 e.t. at 109.76 mph on the historic Central Texas 1/8th mile BUT the team from East Texas pulled out a 6.24 at 110.11 that took them to the next round.
...2 V-Rod Destroyers lined up next with Longview‘s "worl renoun" Jeff Brown taking on Gruene H.D.’s sponsored Billy Shoemaker. The 2 factory race bikes were evenly matched and the race between the 2 friends that pitted side by side ended with Shoemaker taking a 6.37 win. The last pair was Hollywood’s Cycle Emporium’s Mike Dolese against the Machados Speed - Central Machine sponsored entry of Palacios Paul. Paul put the East Texas entry on the trailer with a 6.06 at 111 mph.
....In the 2nd Round Peek eased thru his solo pass after Shorty Reed’s bike was shut off at the line with a bad fuel leak and then Shoemaker’s Destroyer lined up against Palacios Paul’s Sportster dragster. Paul caught a red light and the Austin entry of Shoemaker made it to the Finals.
...Peek’s domination went all the way when in the Finals he left on Billy with a .109 reaction time to Shoemakers .132 and went on to set the Low E.T. of the Meet for Top Alcohol Harley when he won with a 5.59 e.t. at 114 to Billy’s game 6.19... The Peek Family, John & his wife Sandy, WINS TEMPLE AGAIN!!!

KEN WEEDE WINS MACHO ELEMINATOR

...After Class Eleminations, a GOOD crowd of racers made the call for Macho Eleminator. Aided with a $150 bonus from Garland’s Ace Powdercoating (Jocko Mitchell) the Sportsman Class winners and racers buying into the Eleminator thrilled the crowd with their Bracket Racing skills.
...8 bikes were left after a couple of rounds of racing. In the Quarter Finals, Kevin Schutt’s VR Class racer from Cypress took out John James 883 Sportster running a 7.77 on his 7.34 dial to James’ 10.06 on a 9.80 dial in. Then Taylor’s Neil Souder laid down a 7.40 on his Class XM Top Street FL to beat Houston’s Al Doss who broke out running a 7.28 on a 7.30 dial in.
...Houston’s Paul Davidson took out the 5150 entry of Michael Majeska when the League City youngster got a close .024 redlight. Then to finish out the round, Ken Weede’s V-rod got around Angleton’s Harley Davidson Dealer Howard Goe when Weede went 7.57 on a 7.50 dial to Howard’s 6.81 on a 6.36 dial which set up the Semi-Finals.
...In the Semi’s - Schutt put his V-Rod in the Final Round when he took out Neil Souder’s Big Twin 7.49 on a 7.34 dial to Souder’s 7.71 on his 7.15 dial. The other Semi was won by Ken Weede when the League City V-Rod rider’s time ticket said, 7.58 on his 7.50 dial. Paul Davidson’s Buell went 7.93 on his 7.50 dial losing effort.
...Ken Weede’s ‘09 VRSCF took it’s deserved win in the Final Round when again he got very close to hitting his dial in, a 7.60 came up on the scoreboards against his 7.50 Dial. Kevin Schutt ended up losing in this First Macho Eleminator V-Rod Final when a 7.52 e.t. fell short of the 7.34 dial in. A few bucks, a big trophy, and probably a racin’ story or two went back with Weede to the Coast...

JLBB Temple Report
...(LOUD) Lloyd Stenerson took his first Top Fuel Harley win at the 29th Temple "All Harley" Drags when Houston Hal Cort caught a RED LIGHT. Stenerson running out of his own V-Twin Solutions in Allen eased through Sunday’s Eleminations to face Low Quailfier Metalcraft Racing machine.
...Jocko Mitchell kicked off the Top Fuel Harley Eleminations earlier in the day with a roll off 5.75 when Garland’s Bill Flanerty wasn’t able to make the lap. Then Lloyd lined up against the hard thrashing Dragon’s Breath - East Texas Equipment Service entry with Shorty Reed riding. The Dragon’s Breath team imported "The World’s Fastest Mexican" Charlie Machado from Austin to their Longview race shop earlier in the week to help with the final fabrication, machining & tuning necessary for them to make it to Temple in time with their 2 dragsters. Unfortunatly, Shorty’s fueler apparently sucked a bubble in the fuel system and died at the end of his burnout and Stenerson soloed for his first round win in Top Fuel Competition.
...Cort used his bye run in the 1st Round to put down a 5.03 at 151.67 to even better his Low Qualifier e.t.
...The 2nd Round of Top Fuel started when Stenerson lined up against his friend Jocko Mitchell and then made it a solo win again with a 5.71 when the Ace Powder Coating - Phillip’s Garage entry blew his pass when the veteran pilot got his first red light in umpteen years. Cort, again on a bye run as he was the quickest in the 1st Round laid down another 5 OOO lap setting up him & Stenerson in the Finals - With a near 7/10ths advantage in average elapsed times!!!! (That’s like having a 100 foot head start in a 660 foot race!!!).
...So - Tuned & wrenched by his crew J.R. & his son Johnny, Loud Stenerson (that nickname don’t come from his voice - but from his MOTORCYCLE which is REAL LOUD when he twist’s the throttle) lines up against Houston Hal’s thundering 151" Nungesser motored dragster. Cort has the bike set on "Let’s Roll"!!! People around the track knowledgable in the sounds of Nitro Harley motors could hear a heavy load of nitromethane in the Houston bike lit with a LOT of advance in the motor. It was definatly set on "Go or Blow"... And when he turned on the throttle it WENT - getting Low E.T. of the meet - dipping down into the "magic" 4 second zone on the tacky Little River Dragway racing surface. However - his 4.97 LOW E.T. OF THE MEET at 142 WAS DISQUALIFIED with a JUMP START.... Stenerson TOOK THE WIN LIGHT -
