Sportsman Trophy Class Eleminations are always crowd favorites at the Texas Style Party Drags and at the 28th running of the
Temple "All Harley" Party Drags at Little River Dragway it was NO DIFFERENT. The side by side - Heads Up racing by Harley
Davidsons that are pretty much similar is fun for everybody and down right THRILLING for the competitors and their personal fans
& friends.
…F Class, Hot Street XL was taken by the eventual Macho Eleminator winner Doug Meador over Little River’s own Robert Haris.
FF Class, Hot Street Buell was gold for Stephen Nohrer who took a trophy back to Denison’s Pro Custom Cycles. (SAY - IF
PEOPLES NAMES GET MISSPELLED DURING THE WRITING OF THESE STORYS, YOU’VE GOT TO REMEMBER THAT WE GET THIS
INFORMATION OFF THE TECH CARDS THAT ARE SOMETIMES KINDA SCRIBBLED IN A HURRY TO GET ON THE TRACK!!!!).
…Class JJ, Stock FL 2 Cam was taken by Mark Gibson running out of Lewisville’s American Cycles and Class L Hot Street FL Evo
was handled by 5150 Racing’s Michael Masjiska out of League City. Spring’s Chip Martin won Class M Street Racer FL with his
Shovelhead and Class MM Street Racer FL Evo went to another veteran racer Denny Davis who just came out with his Big Twin
Racer after many seasons in F Class.
…In the hotly contested class, Jim Haskin took out Jeff King in the First Round 7.98 to 8.38, Madisonville’s Olin Manning handled
Mitch Reid out of Dallas 8.21 to 9.56, Denny Davis took out a red lighting Madisonville bike riden by Bobby Drake & Mark Gibson
handled Bentonville Arkansas’ Jeremy White 7.64 to an 8.37. After more close battles in the second round it came down to Denny
Davis & Jim Haskin. Davis saved his best for last as he wowed the crowd with a 6.85 pass at 103.64 to easily handle Haskin’s
game 7.86.
…Super Street FL went to another Pro Custom Cycles bike of Steve Nohrer and Class VR Stock VRSC V-Rod was handled by
Houston’s Eric Copeland. Class VRCH, V-Rod Competition Hot went to Longview’s Frank Clark and what seems to be the crowd’s
favorite Sportsman entry the AAA Modified Buell Blast of Kyle Robinson took his class.
…Class R, X Drag Modified XL for Sportster based dragbikes with engines between 76" and 93" is also usually a big class and
Little River spectators saw several of those WILD machines. In the Semi’s Placios Paul on the famous Orange Crush took out
Megalodor Racing’s Steve Griffith on the Bandido’s entry 6.50 to a 7.36, then Conroe’s 5050 Racing entry ridden by Nick
Eskildeson handled the Rusty’s Scooter Shop entry piloted by Corey Jones. In the Finals it was Placios Paul who set on top with
a 6.300 at 106 to Eskildsen’s close 6.56 at 100.
…In Class T for Drag Modified FL’s & V-Rods under 82", Longview’s Jeff Brown advanced to the finals after the Grey Ghost’s M/C
entry of Bandido Hector couldn’t make the call and Abilene’s Mark Gregory advanced to the finals when Austin’s Billy
Shoemaker got a red light. In the Finals, Brown took the trophy with low e.t. of the class eleminations 6.78 over the West Texan’s
7.05.
…X Drag Modified FL for Big Twin dragsters from 82" to 97" was won by Pasadena’s Randy Wilson and Top Modified, Class Z
went to Austin’s Doug Code running out of ATC Racing.
…It was quite the show during Class Eleminations after a day and a half of Time Trials the Sportsmen were REALLY on their
game and to balance out the action a Grudge Racer lane was kept open pretty well all during the eleminations. Many of the 30
or so riders that had entered the FREE GRUDGE RACING part of the program were making laps on the dragstrip for the first time
and many were old hands that were just playing ( Including many time past Top Fuel Eleminator winner John Koehnle keeping
his hand in with 2 different hot Sportsters ).
…Sportsman Eleminations were PLENTY FUN at Little River this year!!!!!!!
