…Macho Eleminator at the 28th Annual Temple "All Harley" Party drags was "tweeked" a little bit over the way it was run in the past. It has always been a "dial your own e.t. handicap" race for Sportsman Class Winners towards the end of the racing day. However, this year the prize money was raised from $100 to win to $250 to win and racers who had competed but lost in class eleminations were invited to run - for an additional $25.
…Needless to say there was perhaps a little bit harder competition during class eleminations as the winners would get not only a trophy for their efforts but get to run for free for the "bucks".
That’s what it came down to in the Finals, Jeff King who lost during the Street Racer Evo Class Eleminations, threaded his way through a strong field to end up facing the F Class Winner.
….F Class Hot Street Sportster was taken by long time Texas Style Party Drags competitor Doug Meador who used his hundreds of passes worth of experience on his red Sportster to end up in the other lane.
…Lots of "knowing" spectators saw the battle coming and hooted as much for the Macho Eleminator win as Top Alcohol & Top Fuel. They’d seen Jeff King take out Spring’s Chip Martin in the Semi’s with his 8.41 on an 8.40 dial in making Martin’s 9.03 on an 8.80 dial look like a RUNAWAY. In the other Semi - Meador was off his dial bad with a 7.46 on his 7.10 dial against Bryan’s Pat Cole. Cole whacked him on the tree - .122 to Meador’s .177 but had problems downtrack letting the veteran Sportster racer slide into the Finals..
…Jeff dialing in an 8.40 got the head start on Meador’s 7.10 Dial and run a good 8.53 on the pass. The light went to Meador’s side though even as he only hit a 7.40 but won the close race due to the two bikes differences at the green. Jeff hit a respectable .298 light but Meador looked like his clutch hand was wired into the christmas tree with an astonishing .075 reaction time making the difference in a CLOSE RACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
